The driver is named: usbaudio2.sys and the associated inf file is usbaudio2.inf. The driver will identify in device manager as 'USB Audio Class 2 Device.' This name will be overwritten with a USB Product string, if it is available. The driver is automatically enabled when a compatible device is attached to the system. If you are using the Desktop Viewer, then USB devices are shown to the user as a manufacturer name and a device name; for the Bloomberg Keyboard’s audio device this shows as “Bloomberg Keyboard Audio”. To use the fingerprint reader, you must redirect the device Bloomberg Fingerprint Scanner. USB™ multi-port adapters with Ethernet connectivity and some Ethernet adapters are not compatible at this time (due to IC design). Click here for more information. Objective

This article describes support for the Bloomberg Keyboards in XenDesktop, and how to configure the Citrix online plug-in for Windows for the Bloomberg Keyboard.

Background

• Bloomberg Keyboards provide additional functionality to standard keyboards, enabling users to access financial market data and perform trades. To enhance the usability of the Bloomberg Keyboard device, XenDesktop 4.0 allows you to share the extended Bloomberg Keyboard features with multiple sessions and the local environment.

• The Bloomberg Keyboard consists of four USB devices built into one physical shell

1. The keyboard itself
2. A fingerprint reader
3. An audio device
4. A USB hub to connect all of these devices to the system.

• To use this specialized functionality inside a session, redirect the audio device as a USB device. This makes the entirety of the audio device available to the session, but prevents the audio device from being used locally. In addition, the specialized functionality can only be used with one session and cannot be shared between multiple sessions.

• The support for Bloomberg Keyboards in the online plug-in and XenDesktop adds the ability to share the specialized functionality between the local system and one or more sessions, without making the audio device available. Additionally, this allows the improved audio support in the online plug-in to be used for lower bandwidth audio.

Instructions

Prerequisites for Supporting Bloomberg Keyboards

To support Bloomberg Keyboards:

• The user device must have the requisite online plug-in installed.
• The session to which the online plug-in is connecting must support USB devices.

The ability to support Bloomberg Keyboard 3 is present in the online plug-in 11.2 for Windows and subsequent versions.

To support Bloomberg Keyboard 4, Windows Receiver 4.8 and subsequent versions should be present.

Determining if Support for Bloomberg Keyboards is Enabled

• To check if support for Bloomberg Keyboards is enabled in the online plug-in, check how Desktop Viewer reports the Bloomberg Keyboard’s devices. If the Desktop Viewer is not used, it is possible to check the registry on the machine running the online plug-in.
• If support for Bloomberg Keyboards is not enabled, the Desktop Viewer shows

1. Two devices for the Bloomberg Keyboard 3 . One appears as “Bloomberg Fingerprint Scanner”, and the other as “Bloomberg Bloomberg Keyboard Audio”.
2. One policy redirected device for Bloomberg Keyboard 4. This device appears as “Bloomberg LP Keyboard 2013”

• If support for Bloomberg Keyboards is enabled, there are two devices shown in the Desktop Viewer. One appears as “Bloomberg Fingerprint Scanner” as before, and the other as “Bloomberg Keyboard Features”.
• If the driver for the Bloomberg Fingerprint Scanner device is not installed, the Bloomberg Fingerprint Scanner entry might not appear in the Desktop Viewer and so might not be available for redirection. It is still possible to check the name of the other Bloomberg device whether support for Bloomberg Keyboards is enabled.

Caution! Refer to the Disclaimer at the end of this article before using Registry Editor.

• To check if support is enabled without using the Desktop Viewer, you can look in the registry for the value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARECitrixICAClientGenericUSBEnableBloombergHID

• If that value is not present or is 0 (zero), support for Bloomberg Keyboards is not enabled. If the value is 1, support is enabled.

Enabling Support for the Bloomberg Keyboard

Note: With the release of Citrix Receiver for Windows 4.8, support for composite devices was added by the “SplitDevices” policy. This policy must not be enabled for the Bloomberg Keyboard 4. Use the Bloomberg Keyboard Feature Support instead.

• The support for the Bloomberg Keyboard changes how certain USB devices might be redirected to a session; as such, this support is not enabled by default.
• Complete the following procedure to enable support at installation time:

Add the property ENABLE_HID_REDIRECTION with the value TRUE to the installation command-line.

• To enable support after installing the online plug-in, you must edit the Windows Registry on the system running the online plug-in:

1. Open Registry Editor.

2. Navigate to the following key:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARECitrixICA ClientGenericUSB

3. If the value EnableBloombergHID exists, modify it so that the value data is 1.

4. If the value EnableBloombergHID does not exist, create a new DWORD value with the name EnableBloombergHID and give its value data as 1.
   

Disabling Support for the Bloomberg Keyboard

You can disable support for the Bloomberg Keyboard in the online plug-in as follows:

1. Open Registry Editor on the system running the online plug-in software.

2. Navigate to the following key:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARECitrixICA ClientGenericUSB

3. If the value EnableBloombergHID exists, modify it so that the value data is 0 (zero).

4. If the value EnableBloombergHID does not exist, support for the Bloomberg Keyboard is not enabled. You do not have to modify any registry values.

Using Bloomberg Keyboards without Enabling Support

• If you do not enable support for the Bloomberg Keyboard in the online plug-in, then you can still use the keyboard. You will not have the benefit of sharing the specialized functionality among multiple sessions and you might experience increased network bandwidth from audio.
• To use the Bloomberg Keyboard’s ordinary keys, no special action is required. These keys are made available in the same way as any other keyboard.
• To use the specialized Bloomberg keys, you must redirect the Bloomberg Keyboard’s audio device into the session. If you are using the Desktop Viewer, then USB devices are shown to the user as a manufacturer name and a device name; for the Bloomberg Keyboard’s audio device this shows as “Bloomberg Keyboard Audio”.
• To use the fingerprint reader, you must redirect the device Bloomberg Fingerprint Scanner. If you do not have the drivers for the fingerprint reader installed locally, then this device only shows if the online plug-in is set to connect devices automatically or to let the user choose whether to connect devices. Further, if the Bloomberg Keyboard is connected prior to the session being established and the fingerprint reader drivers are not installed locally, then the fingerprint reader does not appear and is not usable within the session.

Note: For Bloomberg 3, one session or the local system can use the fingerprint reader, and cannot be shared. Bloomberg 4 will be prohibited for redirection.

Using Bloomberg Keyboards after enabling support

• If you do enable support for Bloomberg Keyboards in the online plug-in, you have the benefit of being able to share the specialized keyboard functionality with multiple sessions and you might experience reduced network bandwidth from audio. Note that the fingerprint reader cannot be shared for Bloomberg 3 keyboard. For Bloomberg 3 fingerprint reader can also be shared.
• Enabling support for the Bloomberg Keyboard prevents the redirection of the Bloomberg Keyboard’s audio device. Instead, a new device is made available. If you are using the Desktop Viewer, this device is called Bloomberg Keyboard Features. Redirecting this device provides the specialized Bloomberg keys to the session.
• Enabling support only affects the specialized Bloomberg keys and the audio device – the ordinary keys and the fingerprint reader are used in the same way as when support is not enabled.
